Chartering a Boat: Crewed vs. Single Handed

If you don’t own a boat, but if you really enjoy sailing and would like to cross the ocean on a magnificent boat, you can still be able to do that by chartering one. There are several companies that offer boat chartering services, which means that finding the perfect fit for you won’t be a problem. However, indecision may strike you when it is time to select some specifications like the type of boat, the size, and whether or not you want a crewed or single handed boat. In this article we will compare the ups and downs of choosing a single handed boat or a crewed one.

First of all, if you charter a crewed boat you can be sure that the bill will be higher than if you charter a single handed. Furthermore, the size of the boat and its type will tell the size of the crew. Imagine you charter a small sailboat which is crewed; the necessary crew will be one or two persons. However if you charter a huge and luxurious yacht, then the number of crew members will be astonishing, of course the final price will also be astonishing – in the bad way. So when it comes to the price of a crewed boat you can control the costs by choosing a small one that does not require a lot of crew members. Anyway, a single handed boat will be cheaper than a crewed one.

If you’d like to charter a single handed boat but you don’t know how to sail, don’t worry, some boat chartering enterprises will allow you to take classes where you will learn the basics of sailing a boat. Of course you won’t be a skipper with those classes but you will learn the necessary skills to sail a boat, and then you will be able to charter a single handed one.

3 Simple Tricks to Get Lower Prices When Chartering a Luxury Yacht

We all know that luxury yachts can be extremely expensive, their price can range from several million dollars to more than 190 million dollars. In spite of their high price it is difficult to find someone who wouldn't love to get on a luxury yacht and sail across the ocean while visiting interesting destinations. Don't be upset, even if you are not a millionaire or a billionaire you can still sail on a luxury yacht. How to do that? Chartering may be the solution.

Chartering a luxury yacht won't be cheap at all, but there are a few tricks of the trade that will help you get the best prices, and by best I mean lower prices while keeping the same standard of quality. Let's have a look at some of them:

1) Off-season: In the Mediterranean, the summer is actually the high-season, people are enjoying their vacations and some of them choose to spend them at luxury yachts, by consequence the enterprises that run yachts will increase their prices. As a matter of fact, if you are planning on visiting the Mediterranean on a luxury yacht choose the off-season period since the prices will be lower. On the other hand, if you are planning on visiting the Caribbean you might want to avoid doing so during Christmas and also spring break, those periods are considered peak-periods. If you want cheaper prices, avoid those too. Be careful because if we compare the prices of both high-season and off-season periods, the prices during the peak-season can be 100% more expensive than during the off-season period.

2) Compare: Nowadays we have so much information at the tip of our fingers, and what's better is that we can get it in a blink of an eye, all that thanks to the internet. So if we have the technology we must use it. We can use the internet for comparison purposes, there are so many websites that offer information and quotes related to their yacht chartering services that if we search correctly we can find the cheaper ones without losing the quality we want and deserve.
