Your Sailing Vacation: Venice

Your Sailing Vacation: Venice

b2ap3_thumbnail_A-Kiss-Under-the-Bridge-of-Sighs.jpg

The reckless teens were in love. They had an innocent beautiful love that sought to have their love for one another sealed forever with a kiss in a gondola under the Bridge of Sighs at sunset. The pair had led the French police on a chase from Paris to Venice where the gondola stopped just short of this one goal they had. With a swift kick to the gondolier’s hind quarters, the teen boy pulls at the posts so they can make it under the bridge before the bells stop chiming, so he can kiss his girl. She gets up and helps and when it appears they are going to make it, they both sit in the slowly moving gondola, stare at  each other and kiss as they pass under the bridge. The last scene from the movie, “A Little Romance” elicits a collective ‘Ah, Venice.’

Your Sailing Vacation -Trieste

Your Sailing Vacation-Trieste

b2ap3_thumbnail_Sunset-in-Trieste.jpg

You’ve just about finished your tour of the Slovenian Coast in your rented sailboat. You’ve tasted the wines, you’ve sampled the seafood, and joined in the nightly summer celebrations. You may be wondering what else there is to do and where else can you go? Head north and a little to the west around the coast of Italy, and you will find a not-too-busy port in Trieste. A visit to Italy in the Spring is even better on board a rented sailboat. You can escape from the crowded streets and hotels and make your way to the quiet marina where you have your boat moored. Let the gentle waves rock you to sleep each night.

Your Sailing Vacation-Grado

Your Sailing Vacation-Grado

b2ap3_thumbnail_Grado-Beachfront.jpg

You’ve booked your sailing vacation. You know you will be spending some time in Venice, some time in other areas of Italy and even some islands off the Slovenia coast. Then you notice a small beach community in Italy located off the Adriatic Sea called Grado. There are many areas of shallow water that is easy for little ones to splash around in so if your sailing vacation includes outings for your little swimmers, Grado is a good place to moor your sailboat and stay for a while. The waters are warm and inviting, often calm and the beaches are wide and inviting.

There are areas that you can only visit if you do have a sailboat. (Unless you take the ferry that is, and those only run on Sundays.) The Isola di Barbana is one of those. There is a Sanctuary on the Island dedicated to the Madonna that at one point was a pilgrimage destination for devout Catholics. The center of Grado is a lot like Venice in the style of architecture and building and has plenty of restaurants and bars with local cuisine.

Before you board your rented sailboat, you want to make sure that you have experienced all that Venice has to offer, and you just don’t want to leave. That’s okay, it’s your sailing vacation. You are in charge!

By now you should have had a chance to sample many of the local Venetian foods like oca in onto (goose) or lagoon fish, perhaps you’ve tasted polpette, that’s a Venetian meatball! Or you’ve tasted some antipasti. If not, you need to search these specialties out at one of the local cafes. The first couple of days after leaving your sailboat, you saw the Renaissance art at the museums. Did you know that there is a healthy collection of contemporary art. The Biennale is a bi-annual festival held from the month of June into November and features contemporary artists from all over the world.

Slovenia: Where Stress Melts Away

b2ap3_thumbnail_slovenia1.jpg

The Break

You’ve been working it seems for four hundred days straight. The economy has got you down, the boss is becoming a pain and you know you need a break. What to do? Take a little trip and sit on the deck of your boat for hire. Let the warm Slovenian sun melt your stress away. Watch as that stress leaves your body and rolls off the side of the yacht where it drowns in the deep, crystal blue water of the Adriatic Sea. You should begin to feel a strange sensation come over you as the corners of your mouth crack upward in a way they have not done in a long while. Yes, that is a smile of contentment. One more benefit to your sailing vacation in Slovenia.

Rent a sailboat? You may ask. Yes, it isn’t as expensive as you might think it is. Slovenia is home to numerous companies that allow you to rent sailboats and yachts. Need to save a little bit of money? Ask about bare boating. You provide the crew and a licensed captain and you are ready to watch that stress drown!

When you see that brilliant red of the first sunset dip into the sea, and the brilliance of the stars shining against the jet black sky you are going to be glad you came. The first night is really to get you acclimated to the fact that you are on vacation. Every time you hear a cell phone ring, you might jump, instantly thinking it is for you. If you aren’t convinced by dinner time, when they bring out some of the best food in the area and place it in front of you that might do it. When the flavor of the local wine dances on your taste buds, you may want to visit the winery it was made in. And here, in this corner of the world that is not only possible, it is encouraged!  Slovenia is known for fantastic sailing vacations, castles, fortresses and the many wineries that are located within sailing and easy travel distance. You won’t be too far away to actually see all these places in the same week!

Slovenia: The Naturist Way

Slovenia:The Naturist Way

 b2ap3_thumbnail_080113-1.png

With the silky golden sand gliding between your toes, you survey your surroundings. Crystal blue waters rush to shore, crashing over smooth boulders and reef formations. In the distance, your rented sailboat is anchored in the deep along with the boats of all sizes, from yachts to simple outboard motor boats. You shift in the sand briefly as two beauties pass you, give you the ‘look’, and continue on their way. You smile and wave, returning the glance they gave you. Do you follow them? Of course you do, you reach down to straighten your shorts and shirt, then you remember, you aren’t wearing any.

You have embarked on an entirely naturist sailing vacation, the Slovenia way. You are on a sailing tour of some of the most secluded naturist camps, beaches and towns. You start in Mlini on the Slovenia coast and enjoy the sights. The policy of the naturist camps in the Mlini area is very liberal so if you want to leave the beach for lunch, don’t worry about donning your suit, there are restaurants where you can dine au naturel.
